Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA)
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) is a Singapore government agency under the Ministry of Home Affairs. ICA is responsible the security of Singapore's borders against the entry of undesirable persons and cargo through land, air and sea checkpoints. ICA also performs other immigration and registration functions such as issuing travel documents and identity cards to Singapore citizens and various immigration passes and permits to foreigners. It also conducts operations against immigration offenders.
ICA began a trial in 2005 evaluating systems to determine the best biometric technology for securing the border checkpoints throughout the country. It was specified that any solution considered would be required to do both a 1:1 verification match for ePassport and Visa solutions and also perform 1:n searches in large databases for known offenders that are not allowed within Singapore’s borders.
The Bioscrypt 3D solution was tested side by side with traditional 2D facial recognition technology. The trials focused on ease of use, matching precision and flexibility to adapt to ambient conditions such as lighting and different image capture angles, all of which can have a significant impact on face recognition performance and accuracy.
US Department of Homeland Security
The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Protective Service (FPS) provides security and law enforcement to GSA buildings in 11 regions covering facilities throughout the United States. FPS recommends security practices and enhancements to many Federal agencies leasing space in GSA buildings. GSA Buildings and their individually housed agencies require varied security levels, ranging from a level 5 building, such as the Pentagon to a level 1, being a small government leased office space in a remote town.
The Bioscrypt solution has been securing access to the Regional Director’s entrance of their DHS FPS Headquarters building since October 2005. The implementation serves both to secure the building’s second floor entrance and as an assessment site for Bioscrypt’s facial recognition products for other DHS sites.
Kuwait National Assembly
The Kuwait National Assembly Complex houses the Parliament of Kuwait. The Assembly Hall, the Central Street and the Covered Square are special elements that dominate the architecture of the complex. The National Assembly's financial responsibilities include approval of the state budget and final accounts. The National Assembly has the right to set up standing as well as ad-hoc committees from among its members including Committee Interior Affairs and Defence, Committee on Financial and Economic Affairs, Committee on Legislative and Legal Affairs.
The National Assembly Complex is using Bioscrypt solutions for employee time and attendance, providing a proof positive identity solution for tracking employee time. There are more than 1000 employees and 12 face readers deployed at this site.
Key benefits for using the Bioscrypt biometric solution for time and attendance include provision of additional security and elimination of “buddy punching”. Security is increased by providing audit capabilities of who is on and off-site at any given time. Buddy punching can be a significant human resources issue leading to overpaying of wages and loss of productivity and is eliminated with the use of Bioscrypt technology for identity verification.
For the employees, the solution is quick and easy for clock in/out since the solution eliminated the need for cards. The requirement now is to glance at the Face Reader and be verified for a clock in or out transaction.
Regional Transportation District of Denver
Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado, is a public transportation district that provides transit services to eight counties and 44 municipalities, with 85 million annual passenger trips aboard light rail, bus, access-a-Ride and call-n-Ride services. With 1300 buses, 16 miles of light rail and another 19 miles to be added within a year, the RTD’s Treasury handles millions of dollars in collected transit fees per year.
The Treasury is secured by a “man-trap” with a Lenel card access system opening doors into and out of the man-trap only for authorised treasury personnel. Bioscrypt’s 3D biometric facial recognition systems add security to this infrastructure by verifying the ID card with the rightful owner ensuring that lost or stolen cards cannot be used by anyone other than the authorised party to whom a card has been issued.
RTD Treasury manager, Don Young, said, “We have Treasury’s security access thresholds set very high on Bioscrypt’s new Vision Access 3D Face Reader, because Treasury cannot tolerate any false accepts, yet we experience a 99 percent throughput rate. Bioscrypt’s readers are serving us with fast speeds and high accuracy.”
